It may be tranquilizing to know that cures for bacterial vaginosis are usually very simple and most have been proven to be highly effective. Even if this is your first time having this condition, you may consider using proper home remedies instead of antibiotics.

What Types of Antibiotics are Being Used?

Most doctors are prescribing vaginal antibiotics or oral antibiotics. You probably already know it; an oral antibiotic is the same as taking the antibiotic pill by mouth.
Vaginal antibiotics involve using a gel or cream that is inserted into the vagina using an application. It's done this way to make sure you get the correct dosage amount. The purpose of the antibiotic cures for bacterial vaginosis are to help destroy the bacteria that cause a this condition and bring the bacteria levels back to normal.

Metronidazole, as well as Clindamycin, Ampicillin, Ceftriaxone, and Tertracycline are all popular antibiotics. Tinidazole is a new type of antibiotic that is currently being tested. This antibiotic drug has been said to be effective in European countries for treating BV. Tinidazole is in the same antimicrobial family as Metronidazole, thus very similar to this antibiotic.

Some conflicting side effects in women who have taken Metronidazole, is the direct reason why the study of Tinidazole was started in the first place. Many women who have tried these antibiotics say that the side effects of Tinidazole are less than Metronidazole. Clindamycyin is an antibiotic that should be avoided if possible mostly because of the serious side effects it produces; this antibiotic has been linked to be the cause of a severe intestinal condition even weeks after taking it.

Which Home Remedies Work?

Chronic Bacterial Vaginosis - What Can Cure It Forever?

If you are one of the many women suffering from chronic bacterial vaginosis, it is very important that you seek treatment. It's not sufficient to treat it just to get relief from its unpleasant symptoms. Any chronic condition can pose some very real health risks that can affect your life beyond what is considered the 'nuisance' symptoms of this condition. When bacterial vaginosis has become chronic, women run the risk of getting Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), if it gets time to work its way through the vagina and the cervix and into the uterus.

If it's not treated in a timely manner (for example because you mistake the symptoms for just a continuation of your vaginosis), PID can lead to fertility problems as serious as complete infertility. If you are suffering from chronic bacterial vaginosis, your chances of getting PID are significantly higher than normal, simply because the bad bacteria now have more opportunities to work their way into the uterus.

Women that have it while pregnant, can experience problems and complications such as early labor and can also lead to a low birth weight for their baby. To prevent such complications, women are able to obtain a bacterial vaginosis test in early pregnancy. If you know that you suffer from this chronic vaginal disorder before you become pregnant, don't hesitate to inform your OB/GYN so that they can follow you up throughout your pregnancy to make sure that you stay bacterial vaginosis-free as much as possible.

With this condition, the problem is not so much to identify it, but rather treat it so that you can get rid of it for good. As a matter of fact, many women that have been diagnosed with 'chronic' bacterial vaginosis, in reality have vaginosis that have ordinary vaginosis that did not respond to the treatments conducted. The problem is to figure out whether this is because of real chronic vaginosis or because of treatments that don't work.

Medicines such as antibiotics have been used by the majority of women suffering this condition. But antibiotics have never been proven to cure the root causes of bacterial vaginosis, a fact that makes the symptoms return again and again. A good thing is that the lack of evidence of the effect of antibiotics has lead to the correct diagnosis or the condition. So, in order to get permanent relief from chronic bacterial vaginosis, alternative treatment methods are advised.

Learn About Bacterial Vaginosis Causes And How To Get Rid Of Them Permanently

It has been proven that many women don't have much knowledge about the condition we call bacterial vaginosis and even less when it comes to the bacterial vaginosis causes. Medical science and research have not reached a final conclusion about this condition's true causes yet. Nevertheless they are pretty sure they are about to understand its true causes and why they occur. When we have the exact knowledge about it's true causes, it will be much easier to prevent their occurrence.

What most medical scientists, doctors and other medical professionals do agree on is that a main cause of this condition most likely is an imbalance in the bacterial levels in the vagina. Normally the vagina contains a mixture of what is considered as 'good' and 'bad' bacteria. When - for some reason - a process is started that causes the 'bad' bacteria to overgrow and overwhelm the 'good' then the bacterial vaginosis condition occurs.

So, the next question that follows would naturally by what makes these 'bad' bacteria to start overgrowing the 'good' ones? What we're looking for is and answer to what causes the bacterial vaginosis causes. As mentioned above, the medical community hasn't reached a definitive consensus yet, nevertheless recently published research emphasizes the imbalance occurring because of a change in the pH balance of the vagina.

For example, one of the 'good' bacteria is called Lactobacillus. This specie thrives in the optimal vaginal pH balance of about 3.5-4.2, which is slightly acidic. Gardnerella vaginallis is the 'bad' bacteria that we think is the main cause of bacterial vaginosis, thrives at about pH 4.3 or higher, in other words in a more alkaline environment is what the medical experts think is the main cause of this condition.

You can't tell what the pH balance of your vagina is just by looking at it, or by the way you feel it. There are two ways to find it out; go to your doctor and get your pH balance checked or check it yourself with strips specially made for measuring pH balance. These strips you can buy at any pharmacy or health supplies store.

The reason why doctors hesitate to come out and definitively state that this is the true reason behind bacterial vaginosis is because, the causes themselves can sometimes be very hard to prove.

In this case, doctors have neither been able to prove that the pH imbalance causes bacterial vaginosis, nor that the bacterial vaginosis causes the pH imbalance, according to the strict criteria such proof requires.

What we know about the causes of bacterial vaginosis, even though it isn't definitive, can lead us in the right direction for bacterial vaginosis treatment and prevention. If we are aware of and address the issue of pH imbalance in the vagina, we can minimize the occurrence and thus the unpleasant symptoms of bacterial vaginosis. The Real Bacterial Vaginosis Symptoms - What Lots Of Women Really Don't Know

One reason that women don't have a clue realize they have bacterial vaginosis is that they aren't aware of what the bacterial vaginosis symptoms are, so they don't recognize them when they occur.

In several cases, women are so poorly informed about what a 'normal' vaginal environment is that they put up with bacterial vaginosis symptoms, believing that it is normal and just something that they have to live with. And of course, there are women that don't have any symptoms of this disorder at all.

The Symptoms

Unpleasant Vaginal Odor

For the women who have bacterial vaginosis symptoms, the most usual one is an unpleasant or fishy vaginal odor.

The severity of this vaginosis symptom can range from

- mild, meaning the odor is barely noticeable, to
- quite severe, where the smell is noticeable to other people, also when the woman suffering from it is fully clothed.

It's understandable that this unpleasant vaginal odor is not only the most common of the bacterial vaginosis symptoms but also the symptom that most motivates women to see their doctor.

Vaginal Discharge Change

Change in vaginal discharge is also a common bacterial vaginosis symptom. It is not uncommon to confuse this with yeast infection.

- If there is a yeast infection, the discharge can turn whitish, thick and appear like 'cottage cheese'.

- Women suffering from bacterial vaginosis will have a vaginal discharge that is thinner and will appear milk-white or grayish. Some patients will feel a mild burning sensation from it. This symptom may be accompanied by the unpleasant fishy odor, or it can occur on its own.

High PH Level

Of all the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis, the one that is the most definitive indicator of bacterial vaginosis is hard for women to diagnose for themselves. It is a high pH level. It can be difficult to identify because you can't do it by sight or feel.

You have two options;

- go to your doctor or
- get pH testing strips that will let you know what your vaginal pH level is.

Anything above a 4.2 is considered above normal, and the alkaline environment lets bacterial vaginosis thrive.

If you have any of these bacterial vaginosis symptoms, you should go to your doctor to get a proper diagnosis, and also to rule out any other, more serious but also more rare, medical conditions. Once you have your diagnosis, you can set about treating your bacterial vaginosis symptoms and trying to get rid of the condition for good.

There is a method that has been proven to help women find relief from their bacterial vaginosis and its symptoms for good, and it can help you as well to cure your bacterial vaginosis for good.
